Using the admin¶
This section is for the people who work in the admin every day: shop managers, content editors and support staff. It describes what you see on screen, where to click and what happens next. It assumes nothing about Magento and nothing about code.
If you have not signed in yet, start with First sign-in and two-step verification.
The ten pages in this section¶
| Page | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Finding your way around | The sidebar, pins, the search palette, dark mode, the account menu and the Configuration screen |
| Working with lists | Search, filters, sorting, columns, saved views, mass actions, export and the quick-edit drawer |
| Working with forms | The action bar, tabs, panels, the store scope switcher, the text editor and the pickers |
| Catalog | The category tree, the merchandiser, the product grid and attribute sets |
| Content | CMS pages and blocks, landing pages, email partials and newsletters |
| Marketing | Cart and catalog price rules, coupons, reviews and ratings, search terms and synonyms, URL rewrites and the site map |
| Sales | The order list, the order screen, its action buttons, comments, and invoices, shipments and credit memos |
| Customers and security | Passwords, signing in as a customer, passkeys, two-step verification and roles |
| Media | The media library, folders, uploads and image details |
| System | Cache, indexes, backups, import, export, notifications and the dashboard |
Marketing is the one top-level menu without a page of its own here. Email Templates, the shared email header and footer, and the three newsletter lists are covered by Content. The rest of that menu is cart and catalog price rules with their coupons, reviews and pending reviews, search terms and synonyms, URL rewrites and the site map. Each of those is a Nebula list with a Nebula form behind it, so Working with lists and Working with forms describe how they behave. Rating is not a Marketing entry; it sits under Stores, Attributes.
Keyboard and mouse¶
| Keys or click | Where | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Cmd+K or Ctrl+K | Anywhere in the admin | Opens the search palette |
| Up Down | In the search palette | Moves through the results |
| Enter | In the search palette | Opens the highlighted result |
| Esc | In the search palette, any dialog or drawer | Closes it |
| Cmd+S or Ctrl+S | On a Nebula record form | Saves. Where the form has Save and Continue, that is the button it presses, so you stay on the record. Where the only button is Save, it presses Save and you go back to the list. It does nothing on the Configuration screen |
| Enter | In a grid filter box | Applies the filters |
| Esc | Configuration, with the section menu set to Toolbar | Closes the section dropdown |
| Ctrl+Up Ctrl+Down | On a card in the category merchandiser | Moves that product one place |
| Ctrl+Z | In the category merchandiser | Undoes the last move |
| Ctrl+Y | In the category merchandiser | Redoes the last undone move |
| Click a row | In a list | Opens the record, or opens the quick-edit drawer where the list has one |
| Click a link, button or checkbox in a row | In a list | Does only that. The row click is not triggered |
Before you change anything¶
Two habits save the most time.
Use the search palette instead of hunting through menus. It searches every admin page and every settings group your role may open, so typing two fragments such as ord cred finds Credit Memos without knowing where it lives.
Read the action bar at the top of a form before you press anything. Save, Save and Continue, Delete and Back are always in the same place, and Delete always asks first.
