Community-Elected Leadership: Jakub Winkler Joins the Magento Association Board

The Magento ecosystem has always been shaped by its community — not only through open-source contribution, but also through the way leadership is chosen. In 2025, that spirit of participation continues as our founder and CEO, Jakub Winkler, has been elected to the Magento Association Board of Directors via the Public Voting Track. His term begins immediately, following the early departure of Willem Wigman.
This transition ensures that developers remain strongly represented on the Board at a moment when Magento’s future depends on open collaboration, performance innovation, and a clear vision for the role of open source in commerce.
From Developer to Community Leader
Jakub has spent more than a decade in the Magento world, moving from hands-on engineering into leadership roles that connect code with community. Through qoliber, we have become known for building lightweight, scalable, and developer-friendly Magento 2 modules. Our extensions are not only Hyvä-first and ElasticSuite-aware, but also designed to be performance-safe — aligning with the strict standards agencies and developers now demand in Europe and beyond.
Outside of our day-to-day product work, Jakub is a certified Adobe Commerce Expert and the author of Mastering Adobe Commerce Frontend. His talks at Meet Magento events in New York, Florida, France, and India are valued for their clarity and depth, offering developers practical insights on performance, architecture, and modern Magento workflows.
Priorities for the Board Term
Jakub’s election reflects the community’s call for more developer-focused leadership within the Association. His vision is clear: empower contributors, modernize tooling, and strengthen Magento’s open-source foundation. Among his stated priorities are:
- Reviving hackathons as practical engines for contribution and innovation
- Launching Magento Lab and Magento Forge to share tools, experiments, and prototypes
- Creating new funding structures that allow agencies to directly support ecosystem growth
- Expanding Magento’s presence at international conferences and developer forums
- Defending the open-source core of Magento Open Source
“The biggest challenge for the Association is building trust and showing real action.” — Jakub Winkler
What This Means for the Magento Community
Jakub’s appointment brings stronger representation for developers, agencies, and solution partners — the groups who build and maintain Magento stores every day. His focus on transparency, collaboration, and developer advocacy ensures that technical voices remain central to the Association’s long-term strategy.
For the Magento ecosystem, this means clearer contribution pathways, better tooling for Hyvä and ElasticSuite projects, and renewed attention to the performance-first philosophy that defines modern eCommerce builds.
Looking Ahead
Joining the Board at a pivotal moment, Jakub brings both technical expertise and community-driven vision. His leadership promises continuity after Willem Wigman’s departure while opening new opportunities for developer engagement worldwide.
For us at qoliber, this milestone is more than recognition of Jakub’s personal journey. It signals that the Magento ecosystem is ready to embrace developer-first leadership — balancing innovation with the stability that merchants and agencies rely on.
The future of Magento will be written by its community and with Jakub on the Board, we are proud to contribute even more actively to that story.
